Charles Ruas interviews Meredith Monk about the adaptation of her opera Quarry for radio. Meredith Monk is an American composer, singer, director and choreographer who is a pioneer in what is now called interdisciplinary performance. The theater piece Quarry was first performed at the off-Broadway theater, La MaMa, in New York.

Fierstein is also a gay civil rights activist.
