Marin district attorney Bruce Bales

Marin District Attorney Bruce Bales makes a public statement regarding the charges brought against Stephen Bingham in connection with the death of George Jackson at a press conference held on August 31, 1971. Bales charged Bingham on five counts of murder, including three officers and two inmates. [Bingham fled the United States, then returned and surrendered in 1984.

George Jackson's mother speaks out about the killing of her son on August 22, 1971, the day after his death, and the lack of response from authorities at the prison where he was shot. This press conference at the Soledad Brothers Defense Committee was broadcast live. Questions are also asked of members of the Defense Committee, including George Jackson's sister Penny, and Mrs.

San Quentin press conference

This recording begins with the reporter narrating the scene at San Quentin prison, such as bodies being carried out and the reporters undergoing body searches before entering. The majority of the recording is Associate Warden James Park's statement to the press concerning the death of George Jackson, and Parks answering questions from reporters.
