Description:

THIS WAY OUT the international gay & lesbian radio magazine Program #713: (hosted this week by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle) Program I.D. #02-F72-00048 There is no "NewsWrap" segment on "This Way Out" this week, nor on programs to be distributed on 12/24 and 12/31/01. ON THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM: In the conclusion of "Queer Vinyl": "The Prince Charming Tango" (Romanovsky & Phillips), "Everything Possible" (The Flirtations), "Out In The Country" (Doug Stevens & The Outband) and "Pride" (Jon Gilbert Leavitt); plus a Vancouver rally protests the gay-bashing murder of Aaron Webster* Until November 17th, many people in Vancouver, British Columbia's West End thought the days of fearing for their lives because of their sexual orientation were long over. The province has some of the most progressive lesbian and gay rights laws in the world, and the West End is the heart of Vancouver's queer community. But the sense of security there has been shattered by the brutal bashing death of AARON WEBSTER that police say has all the markings of an anti-gay hate crime. Queer FM's HEATHER KITCHING reports on a rally held the day after the murder (featuring friend GLORIA LAFORGE, Little Sisters bookstore owner JIM DEVA, VANCOUVER POLICE INSPECTOR DAVE JONES and VANCOUVER POLICE SERGEANT DON CAYER, with the RAINY CITY GAY MEN'S CHORUS).(about 3:30)* As we've discovered during the past two editions of "This Way Out", the profusion of music by and about gays and lesbians in the past several years has roots that go back as far as the 1920's. In this week's conclusion of a special 3-part series called "QUEER VINYL", CHRIS WILSON & J.D. DOYLE, the hosts of "This Way Out"'s award-winning monthly "AudioFile" segment, continue to explore our lesbigay musical heritage: from his extensive private collection, J.D. is picking his ten choices for the most influential gay and lesbian music ever recorded, which he and Chris discuss and play [produced with CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM]. This week's selections come from the 1980's and 90's: "The Prince Charming Tango" (ROMANOVSKY & PHILLIPS), "Everything Possible" (MICHAEL CALLEN with THE FLIRTATIONS), "Out In The Country" (DOUG STEVENS & THE OUTBAND), and "Pride" (JON GILBERT LEAVITT).(about 23:00)
