The Future Of Socialism / Daniel Singer. - Noted socialist/Marxist scholar speaks about the percieved end of socialism and the victory of capitalism since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The reality is rising unemployment and declining social conditions in all of Europe, with the events in Eastern Europe a "Marxist tragedy." This decline of capitalist socio-economic systems was predicted by Marx, with an eventual failure of the "respectful left" to answer the crisis. European labor must examine why support a system of growth when they must continually make sacrifices. The social crisis in the former Soviet Union, Singer continues, is typical of the pain of industrialization and transition to capitalism.
