Description:

May Day! May Day! / Helen Caldicott. - Speech by Helen Caldicott about the problems with the United States politics and economy, and how those factors are leading to the destruction of the world environment. She points to the April, 1992 uprising in Los Angeles as just the beginning of people rejecting the American "dream." The Russians have rejected their failed system, and she thinks people in the United States may have the courage to follow. Some of the fundamental problems are inadequate health care, political support for the rich, and censorship by the United States media. She goes on to point out that anti-abortionists are promoting matricide, for women will always seek abortions. Caldicott goes on to compare the current support of Perot with the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany following World War I. The United States needs election reform, and a rejection of brain washing which keeps us satisfied with a lifestyle which is endangering the planet. - RECORDED: C-Span, early May 1992. - For version with an introduction by Verden Roe, see: AZ0971.
