Limited choices for Black America / Lola McAlpin-Grant

This is a recording of a talk given by Dr. Lola McAlpin-Grant, former assistant Dean of Loyola Law School. She reconstructs the history of denied birth rights for African Americans since the days of slavery. Because Black women have had to struggle for equality along with other minorities, there has only been a small portion of the pie made available.

Guests are Barbara Grizzuti Harrison, who grew up a Jehovah's Witness; Brett Harvey Vuolo, a Catholic who spent a period of time in a convent; Vivian Gornik, who grew up in a leftist, progressive home; and Laura Scanlon, who grew up Italian Catholic in a small town.

Discussion of the presentation and exploitation of women by mass media advertising held at the Advertising Club of New York on Friday, December 15th, 1972. The subject of the panel is "Womanpower." The moderator is Joyce Snyder, former executive managing director of Art Directors Magazine and image coordinator for the NY chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW).
