Nancy Mayotte, a Bad River Band member, works with survivors of domestic abuse in Minneapolis. She reads selections from her novella "Put Your Tobacco Here," which chronicles the crisis and transformation of a middle-aged woman who confronts a disfiguring skin disease, learns to deal with the departure of her grown children, and rediscovers her family and cultural heritage.

Marcie Rendon, a trained midwife of the White Earth band, discusses and reads her work. She is becoming a recognized writer from Grand Rapids region who has been published in several anthologies and magazines.
