This week on From the Vault we commemorate the birthday of author and diarist Anais Nin, who was born February 21st, 1903, and passed away January 14th, 1977. Our program weaves the music, poetry and comments made by her friends and family, new interviews of those who have been influence by Nin, and the voice of Anais Nin herself as found in the Pacifica Radio Archives. Featured is a rare recording of the celebration service held at the International College in Los Angeles on February 21, 1977, weeks after her passing; Barbara Kraft, who recorded it for KPFK radio, recently donated this previously unknown audio to Pacifica Radio Archives.
Steven Reigns, poet laureate of the city of West Hollywood and an Anais Nin scholar, is guest co-producer and narrator of this episode.
From the Vault is presented as part of the Pacifica Radio Archives Preservation and Access Project, funded in part by an award from the GRAMMY Foundation and the National Historical Publications and Records Commission at the National Archives and Records Administration, and past grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ford Foundation, and the American Archive funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, along with the generous support of Pacifica Radio Listeners. We also thank our partners and collaborators at the Pop-Up Archive, Amara, Other Minds Archives, George Blood Audio, and the California Audio Visual Preservation Project.
