This week on From the Vault, we share a 1962 recording of Noel Langley reading his beloved classic "The Land of Green Ginger" in the studios at WBAI. First broadcast on Stories Children Love hosted by Elinor Gene Hoffman, this funny and clever children's story was an instant and total success among Pacifica listeners, and for over a decade remained one of the most requested programs throughout the Pacifica Network.
Taken from the liner notes...
"This is the tale of an enchanted land that was never in the same place twice..." Thus begins the fabulous tale of "The Land of Green Ginger". It is the story of what came after Aladdin, who, as all good children remember, found the Magic Lamp, married the Princess, and Lived Happily Ever After.
We hope you enjoy Noel Langley's command reading of his tale of adventures filled with memorable characters, and share it with a new generation of radio listeners around the world.
From the Vault is presented as part of the Pacifica Radio Archives Preservation and Access Project, funded in part by an award from the GRAMMY Foundation and the National Historical Publications and Records Commission at the National Archives and Records Administration, and past grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ford Foundation, and the American Archive funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, along with the generous support of Pacifica Radio Listeners.
