Two speeches by Barbara Ehrenreich: First is a speech at California State Polytechnical Institute, Pomona, CA. (the 2nd speaker in their Fresh Air Lecture series, delivered February 2, 1998) about the subject of her most recent book,"Blood Rites: origins and history of the passions of war". She argues that its not the "killer instinct" but the need for protection against predatory animals that gave rise to the highly social and almost religious event that war is. Second speech was given in 1997 at University of Oregon about "trash journalism". Produced by Mark Torres.
