Description:

YEARNING, RACE, GENDER, AND CULTURAL POLITICS / Bell Hooks| interviewed by Wendy White. - Dr. Bell Hooks, author and Professor of English at Oberlin College, Ohio. Hooks begins by examining the lifestyle of Black women and work, the attitude of feminists toward Black women, and the lack of Black female leadership. Hooks goes on to explore the importance of intellectual thought among working Black women (be their at home or in the "workplace"), and the stereotypical attitudes maintained in the broader society. All Blacks must become more education about how the system works, so that they can develop greater autonomy within that system. She concludes by pointing to the need for personal sacrafice, using her struggle to write as an example. Restricted distribution rights. Contains copyrighted music. - RECORDED: KPFK, 21 June 1991.
