Jack Nicholl, campaign director for the initiative, discusses efforts to get the initative on the November 1992 California ballot. The purpose is to give terminally ill patients the legal right to receive physician aid in dying. Such a request would require: written revokable, directive instrucitons; the opinion of two physicians; a witnessed signing by non-related individuals to demonstrate the patient had read the document; and the patient must be mentally competent. The goal is to give people with only a few months to live the right to take control of their situation.
