George Wald speaks on philosophy.|DR. GEORGE WALD AT N.Y.U. - George Wald, Nobel Prize winner in biology and member of the Harvard faculty, speaks about the need to end the Vietnam War. The younger generation does not believe there is a future, he suggests, and part of the problem is the perpetuation of a false "domino" theory in Southeast Asia. He criticizes Nixon's Vietnamization of the war, arguing that it is little more than using Asians as mercinaries for United States foreign policy objectives. He goes on to examine the GNP of the Soviet Union and the 5 nations in Southeast Asia, pointing out that the Pentagon spends more each year on the war than all of the countries are worth. Military spending in the United States is out of control, and often spent on weapons systems that do not work. He concludes with eight points which must be accomplished in United States foreign policy. - RECORDED: New York University, New York City. BROADCAST: WBAI, June 1970.
