At the beginning of January, the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee and United Packinghouse Workers launched an organizational drive in the Imperial Valley lettuce harvest. Late in February, the University of California Student Committee for Agricultural Labor held a rally for the Imperial Valley Lettuce strikers. The rally began with folk songs, and a showing of Uno Veintecinco, a film on the strike, which is referred to several times during the meeting. This is a recording of the talks which followed the film. Speakers include Henry (Hank) Anderson, research director for the Agricultural Workers’ Organizing Committee (AWOC); Maria Moreno, Billy Joe Shelby and George Seratt, organizers for AWOC; Anne Draper, representative of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America (AWOC) and member of California Citizens Committee for Agricultural Labor; and Carey McWilliams, Jr., instructor in political science at the University of California (Berkeley).
