Description:

Professor Michael Parenti examines te economic stratification which defined Colonial America into the politically powerful landholding class and the common people. The revolution--its causes, ideology, and documents--reflected this social division. With an attempt by upcountry Massachusetts farmers under the leadership of Daniel Shay to take over state government in 1787, the ruling elite reacted by discarding the Articles of Confederation in favor of a new document, the Constitution. This document has served the ruling propertyholders for over 200 years, protecting class privelege over class struggle.
