Description:

This week, From the Vault jumps back a couple of decades to a 1992 International Women’s Day special by KPFK’s Jude McGee on women composers in classical music, with in-studio guest JoAnn Falletta – conductor of the Women’s Philharmonic. Falletta talks about the great women composers from the baroque period through to contemporary times and her work with the National Women Composers Resource Center. The Women’s Philharmonic plays Ellen Zwilich’s “Concerto grosso 1985″, Marianna Martines’ “Sinfonia in C”, Camilla de Rossi’s “Il sacrificio del Abramo”, and excerpts from Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre’s cantata “Jonas.”

From the Vault is presented through the Pacifica Radio Archives Preservation and Access Project, funded in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, past grants from the Grammy Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the American Archive funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, along with the generous support of Pacifica Radio Listeners.
