Give a man a decent place to stand. He's been wallowing around in human blood and vomit and burnt flesh screaming how it s going to bring peace to the world". The words of folk singer and peace activist Joan Baez from her first memoir Daybreak. In 1972 Joan Baez traveled to North Vietnam to distribute mail and Christmas presents to American prisoners of war. Hanoi also received a Christmas present from President Nixon and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger that year: the heaviest bombing in the history of the world. Joan Baez found herself in the midst of the notorious US Christmas bombing of Hanoi. She remembers eleven days and nights of heavy aerial bombing and widespread death and destruction. Today we are joined in the studio by Joan Baez.
