In 1986, he came out with the publication of "For A Lost Soldier," a book -- and later a movie -- about his brief relationship with a Canadian soldier stationed in the Netherlands at the end of the Second World War. During his tenure as artistic director of the National Ballet Company from 1971 to 1991, van Danzig created more than 50 ballets, four of them especially for the great Russian dancer RUDOLPH NUREYEV. Van Danzig reflects on his life in dance -- and working with Nureyev -- in this conversation from a Radio Netherlands production by CHRIS CHAMBERS. (about 6:30) * SILAS HOWARD (aka Silas Flipper) is not only the lead singer of the queer punk band TRIBE 8, she is co-writer, co-director and star of a new film that puts a gender-bending lesbian spin on the "buddy movie". "BY HOOK OR BY CROOK", which screens at the Sundance Film Festival this week, won top honors at both the Seattle Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and L.A.'s Outfest last year, and recently beat out 500 other films for a Horizons/Frameline Completion Fund Grant. This Way Out's STEVE PRIDE chats with the multi-talented Howard about her band, her film, and the illusion of gender (includes a clip from the movie). (about 9:00)
