THE A.B.C.'s OF COMMITMENT / Marion Wright Edelman. - Talk by Marion Wright Edelman, founder and President of the Children's Defense Fund and first African American lawyer admitted to the bar in Mississippi. She begins by telling the story of a homeless child, Tony, who says his life is like garbage. She goes on to spell out how people can become committed, and the importance of historic African Americans for raising self esteem. She goes on to present an alphabetic numonic system for helping to change the condition of seemingly hopeless African American children. She concludes with a discussion of Congressional efforts to address the problem, the Child Investment package in the House, and a call for a Children's Sabbath in October.
