Democracy is not simply political, it is a way of life. Americans feel they live in a democracy, but we really have an authoritarian system which is threatened by the idea of democracy. Slater feels that, as change occurs, authoritarianism will collapses. The present United States decline can be traced the disfuncitonal authoritarianism and militarism.
