Description:

|A DREAM DEFERRED : AMERICA'S DISCOUNTENT AND THE SEARCH FOR A NEW DEMOCRATIC IDEAL. - Philip Slater, author of A Dream Deferred, says we have a misconception about democracy that equaates it to capitalism. Democracy is not simply political, it is a way of life. Americans feel they live in a democracy, but we really have an authoritarian system which is threatened by the idea of democracy. Slater feels that, as change occurs, authoritarianism will collapses. The present United States decline can be traced the disfuncitonal authoritarianism and militarism. Slater's view of democracy calls for cooperation and decentralization. It equals flexibility, innovations, and new ideas and human relations. - RECORDED: Santa Cruz, Ca., 25 Sept. 1991.
