At a small pre-conference before the main weeklong gathering, about two dozen participants met to discuss issues relevant to lesbigay and trans people in the Southern Hemisphere. Reporters MARY SALOME and EMILY CHARLES spoke with some of them about ILGA, the South/South Dialog, and the current situations in their home countries. Among those offering their perspective are KEITH GODDARD of GALZ (Gays & Lesbians of Zimbabwe); SILVIA EVANS of LLEGO (Latina/Latino Lesbian and Gay Organization, with members throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico); KIM of Beijing Sisters in China (who didn't want to give her last name); SHERMAN DeROSE, a leading activist from Sri Lanka; OSCAR ATADERO, of Philippines queer progressive group PROGAY; ANNA LEAH ZARABIA of another Philippines group, CLIC (Can't Live In the Closet); YUSA MURANTES, an Amnesty International worker in Venezuela; and WAYNE ROBERTS of the Australian Bisexual Network.
