He discusses heroes, role models for Chicanos, Villaseñor’s dyslexia, how he rescued his book from Putnam and gave back their $75,000 advance, dealing with racism by becoming a writer, Chicano history in the Americas, emigration to the United States, and the belief in his family and family history as a spiritual power and cultural identity.
