Gloria Steinem
Gloria Steinem. Through her writing and activism, Gloria Steinem has created communication mechanisms through which women's voices calling for recognition, equality and justice could be heard. Currently she is a writer and consulting editor of Ms. Magazine, the international feminist bi-monthly that she co-founded in 1972. In 1993, her concern with child abuse lead her to co-produce and narrate an Emmy Award winning T.V. documentary for HBO, Multiple Personalities: The Search for Deadly Memories. Beyond her writing Gloria Steinem is committed to the creation of organizations that aim to widen and deepen opportunities, fairness and inclusion for women everywhere. In this speech given as the Kennedy lecturer at Ohio University in October, 1997, Steinem begins by explaining the need to have patience and long term goals when joining the social and political struggles of the day.
