Borton was a conscientious objector who lived in Vietnam and assisted civilians on both sides of the conflict. There is a short introduction describing how the book discusses how the horrors, cruelty, injustices of the Vietnam war have caused deep emotional scars on the Vietnamese people. Lady Borton describes how the deeply felt commitment to peace, is demonstrated through the daily lives, of several Vietnamese women. According to Borton the Vietnamese have channeled their energies into regenerating the land, and rebuilding their country.
