A Black Russian woman / with William Mandel
William Mandel and his wife conduct an interview in English with Dr. Lily Golden-Hanga, a Black Russian woman, born in Soviet Central Asia of United States parentage. Dr. Golden-Hanga was married to the first premier of Zanzibar, who was later killed in a coup in his country. Dr. Golden-Hanga did her Ph.D. in Moscow on the history of African music, and she was previously a tennis champ of Uzbekistan. She also discusses her attitude toward the use of the term "Black" to denote people of totally different cultures (i.e. herself), challenges the Black Muslims by pointing out that Islam was brought to Africa by slavers, discloses that Dr. Du Bois and Paul Robeson helped persuade the Soviet authorities to found Lumumba University in Moscow.
