Jehovah's child : the case of Deena Metzger
Excerpts from a press conference that was held on Wednesday, September 17, 1969 concerning the case Deena Metzger and Leslie Hoag, both teachers at Los Angeles Valley College. Both women were suspended from their teaching jobs for assigning Metzger's poem "Jehovah's Child," which was deemed obscene by the junior college's Board of Trustees, to their classes, and were then reinstated in non-teaching positions. The conference was attended by Metzger's attorney, David Finkle; Robert Ruhl, professor of psychology at Los Angeles City College and president of the American Federation of Teachers Local 1521; Leo Geffner, attorney for the College Guild of the AFT; Don Anderson, executive secretary for the College Guild; and ACLU attorney Laurence Sperber.
