Description:

Political activist Angela Davis discusses her visit to South Africa in the fall of 1991. Violence prevades in South Africa, and a large section of the population is living on the edge of death. The government is the center from which the violence radiates, with the police and military openly working with known criminals. InKata exists to weaken support for the ANC (African National Congress), forcing membership upon fear of fire or death. With 87% of the land owned by whites, Blacks have been marginalized politically, economically, and socially -- as demonstrated by the policy of apartheid. Black women are in a particularly difficult situation, Davis asserts, working 7 days a week for $17 a month. Ms. Davis goes on to provide a brief history of InKata, which operates to support the police state. The DeKlerk governments is only presenting a facade of progress, with violence the underlying objective. Sanctions must not be lifted, she concludes, but are most needed now.|SOUTH AFRICA, 1991 / Angela Davis| produced by Bob DeBolt. - Political activist Angela Davis discusses her visit to South Africa in the fall of 1991.
