Description:

This week on From the Vault, we pay homage to the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. with excerpts from three of the most enduring speeches in the Pacifica Radio Archives collection. We start off with WPFW host Ambrose Lane, who introduces the earliest surviving record of Dr. King recorded by Pacifica Radio - June 24th, 1957 - when KPFA recorded Dr. King at the Wheeler Hall at the University of California- Berkeley in a speech titled The Power of Peaceful Persuasion. Then, we'll hear from KPFK producer Margaret Prescod, who introduces a selection from America's Chief Moral Dilemma (May 17th, 1967) at the University of California- Berkeley. Finally, KPFK host Jerry Quickley introduces Dr. King's last speech in Los Angeles before his assassination, Men and Women In the Arts Concerned with Vietnam (March 16th, 1968).

From the Vault is presented through the Pacifica Radio Archives Preservation and Access Project, funded in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, past grants from the Grammy Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the American Archive funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, along with the generous support of Pacifica Radio Listeners.
