On this edition of From the Vault we present Me and My Shadow, an outstanding 1975 documentary that studies how various agencies of the United States government have investigated politically left-leaning groups and individuals within the country. As this program demonstrates and predicts, privacy issues have long been a concern in the United States and will likely remain so – a prophecy fulfilled with legislation such as the Patriot Act of 2001, the Patriot Sunsets Extension Act of 2011, and recent, ongoing revelations about the government’s ability to keep tabs on its citizens.
