Description:

This week on From the Vault we honor three recipients of 2012 Presidential Medal of Freedom that were, at some point in their careers, given a voice on Pacifica Radio: Bob Dylan, Dolores Huerta, and Toni Morrison. These three Medal of Freedom recipients were among thirteen people (both living and dead) that were honored by President Barack Obama at the White House for “an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.” In this episode, we will hear Toni Morrison in 2003, Dolores Huerta in 1968 and 1997, and Bob Dylan in 1962 and 1966.

From the Vault is presented through the Pacifica Radio Archives Preservation and Access Project, funded in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, past grants from the Grammy Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the American Archive funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, along with the generous support of Pacifica Radio listeners.

First broadcast on Friday, June 1, 2012.
