Description:
David Rothenberg interviews singer-songwriter Michael Callen, a long-time survivor of AIDS and one of the founders of the People With AIDS Coalition. Callen talks about his AIDS diagnosis, the various diseases he's contracted and the role of promiscuity in the spread of the AIDS epidemic. He also talks about his experiences working with Dr. Joseph Sonnabend, who developed the multifactorial model of AIDS. Callen expresses his doubts that HIV is the single cause of AIDS and that its spread may have more to do with the "fast-lane lifestyle" of gays. He believes also that women cannot transmit HIV to men and that the heterosexual experience with AIDS should be irrelevant to the present AIDS discourse.
